Happy Spring everyone! If you’re like me and live in Southern California, with Spring comes the sudden realization that Summer (aka fiery inferno) is upon us. What better way to prepare for the insane heat waves than to stock up on some warm-weather riding essentials? Below are some of my favorite products and brands for when it gets too hot to function, as well as some general skincare items that always come through for me!
When temperatures start getting warmer and the days at the barn start getting longer, it’s no question that my skincare needs to be taken up a notch. First thing’s first: sunscreen. My favorite facial moisturizer/sunscreen combination is Philosophy’s Renewed Hope in a Jar SPF 30. Not only does it keep my dry/combination skin under control, but I can rest easy knowing that my face won’t look like a saddle that has been left in the sun too long. Yikes! In addition to facial sunscreen, my favorite body sunscreen comes from Supergoop!, which not only doesn’t clog my pores but is also lightweight and won’t budge when you’re sweating! Finally, chapped lips from dust and sunshine are always a pain, so I like to keep a tube of Smith’s Rosebud Salve on me at all times-it’s easy to apply and always keeps my lips soft!
Now, I don’t know about you, but sometimes I’m foolish and make plans for right after I’m done riding. Fun fact: helmet hair is not always a good look. Enter dry shampoo-the ultimate savior of my social life. My favorite brand and scent is the Batiste Cherry Dry Shampoo, but this little bottle comes in a ton of scents for every preference out there! My current trick is to spray this at my roots, finger-comb it through, and then put my hair into a half-up, half-down messy topknot. Kind of like a man bun, but for women…is that just a bun then? Anyway, my favorite hair ties have always been these fabric ones, mainly because they don’t get stuck and they come in so many fun patterns and colors!
It wouldn’t be a TES post without mentioning some sort of juice, now would it? Especially on hot days when I am running around like a crazy person trying to ride as many horses as possible, getting dehydrated is oh-too-easy for me. Therefore, having some juice in the fridge in the tack room is a surefire way that I’ll get enough nutrients to keep powering through the day! My favorites lately has been Pressed Juicery, and my go-to flavors are Greens 2 & 3, and Citrus 1! And finally, there’s the issue of BO. Yep, I went there. As someone who gets admittedly sweaty, I have been on the hunt for a deodorant that lasts and doesn’t make me feel like I’m heightening my risk of breast cancer every application. Luckily for me, my family loves Shark Tank and PiperWai was featured! A charcoal-based, all-natural deodorant that not only smells great, but works? Sounds too good to be true, right?! Give it a try, I’m sure you’ll love it!
